    About

Our Oral Health Solutions include just what you need to achieve a healthy mouth and take proactive measures in supporting important functions tied to overall health.*

Your mouth is a gateway to your body and a first line of defense, a bustling microcosm just as powerful as your gut that holds the key to your overall well-being. Your Oral Health Scores, food recommendations, supplements, and oral lozenges proactively target root causes to get your oral bacteria to work for you, not against you, for a more resilient mouth.

From diet to chronic stress, high mouth acidity, alcohol, teeth grinding, and beauty products, numerous factors could already be compromising your oral microbiome. Left unaddressed, these issues can ripple out to impact your well-being. With Viome, you’re not getting a superficial, temporary fix—we work to safeguard your health long-term.

Address the root cause of symptoms:

    • Gum sensitivity & bleeding*
    • Respiratory issues*
    • Inflamed gums*
    • Receding gumline*
    • Bad breath*
    • Plaque formation*
    • Mouth irritations*
    • Dry mouth*
    • Tooth sensitivity*

    Where we focus

    Your oral microbiome

Your oral microbiome is an unsung hero, performing vital functions from aiding tooth remineralization and transporting oxygen to gums and soft tissues to eliminating harmful waste products. It also serves as a protective shield against harmful environmental organisms.

Just like your gut, your oral microbiome is as unique as your fingerprint. Analyzing your microbial activity (what the microbes in your mouth produce) is critical in understanding how to improve your oral health, from identifying harmful bacteria to understanding the intricate balance of your mouth’s microorganisms. By analyzing your unique microbial activity, we can provide personalized recommendations and products tailored specifically for you—recommendations that no standard oral care routine could achieve.

    Personalized, proactive, & preventative:

Our science ushers in a new era in oral care.

Your oral microbiome is constantly influenced by your diet, stress levels, and seemingly harmless habits like nail biting, teeth grinding, smoking, and alcohol. It’s also influenced by products we use, such as beauty and cleaning products or the use of specific toothpastes and mouthwashes. These factors can disrupt the intricate balance of your unique oral microbiome and, over time, cause symptoms to arise. Many of the microbes in your mouth also rely on what you eat to help balance and feed it, just like your gut. This is why choosing foods, oral biotics, and supplements that help fill gaps in your unique oral environment can be a great way to boost healthy activities that protect and restore.*

Going beyond simply identifying harmful bacteria, we provide RNA-driven, comprehensive oral health scores and a personalized action plan to improve the balance of your oral bacteria. With Viome, you're cultivating a harmonious, healthy microbiome for the long term.

    What's included

The Viome Oral Health Intelligence Test: an oral microbiome health test packaged in a blue reflective box

    1

    Oral Health Intelligence™ Test

Go beyond the brush and floss to learn which way your oral health is trending and get a proactive strategy tailored to your test results.

    16+ Oral Health Scores

This test dives deep into the unique activity of your oral microbiome, which reveals insights into symptoms like cavities, bad breath, and gum sensitivity. These underlying issues aren't always easily noticeable, but our advanced RNA technology reveals crucial signals that enable a proactive, rather than reactive, approach toward your oral health. Your oral health scores allow us to customize your supplement capsule blend and choose the ingredients for your oral biotic lozenges.

A smartphone screen from the Viome app, showing an example customer’s Oral Health Scores for Oral, Dental, and Gum Health

[Icon] Dental Health | 24px | LeftDental Health

The balance of oral microbes significantly impacts our dental health. While some bacteria contribute to plaque formation and tooth decay, others are actually protective. This score assesses the balance of microbes in the mouth and the activity of microbes that contribute to cavity formation.

[Icon] Gum Health | 24px | LeftGum Health

Within your mouth, certain harmful microbes can contribute to gum inflammation and poor gum health. This score assesses the activities of microbes in your mouth that contribute to inflammation and abnormal mucin degradation, a gel-like substance that aids in protecting the gums.

[Icon] Breath Odor | 24px | LeftBreath Odor

Occasionally, the foods we eat can cause temporary bad breath that fades, but some individuals experience bad breath long after they’ve eaten. This score assesses the activity of microbial pathways that produce volatile sulfides and polyamines, compounds that can worsen and prolong bad breath.

[Icon] Oral Pathogen Activity | 24px | LeftOral Pathogen Activity

Maintaining a healthy balance of microbes allows for a more optimal oral environment where activities that are damaging or promote disease are kept to a minimum. This score assesses the balance of microbes in your oral cavity, as well as signs of high pathogen activity, including flagellar production, which aids in the movement and colonization of opportunistic microbes, and the production of LPS, an inflammatory molecule produced by gram-negative pathogenic bacteria.

[Icon] Oral Inflammatory Pathways | 24px | LeftOral Inflammatory Pathways

Just as inflammation in the body is harmful to human health, acute or chronic inflammation of the gums can also have long-term health consequences. The Oral Inflammatory Pathways score assesses whether a mouth may contain periodontopathic bacteria (bacteria that cause gum inflammation) and if these bacteria are actively involved in gum inflammatory pathways. Inflammatory bacteria thrive in dental plaques and beneath the gums where they cooperatively form biofilms and produce signals that can trigger an inflammatory response. Chronic gum inflammation can cause loss of tooth enamel and dentin (the two outer layers of the teeth).

[Icon] Cavity Promoting Microbes | 24px | LeftCavity Promoting Microbes

Cavities are a leading contributor to tooth decay and can impact the health of your mouth. They’re considered one of the world’s most common health problems. The Cavity Promoting Pathways score is an assessment of microbial activities which contribute to dental cavities, as well as activities that protect against dental cavities. This score also takes a deeper dive into cavity biofilm formation and acid production that can contribute to cavity formation.

    Personalized Food Recommendations

We provide customized food recommendations, which are sorted into four categories. Each food is accompanied by helpful information on why we recommend it, or why we don't. It's important to note that your body's response to a particular food can change over time, so don't be alarmed if a food you previously enjoyed is now on your Avoid list.

    Full-body benefits

Your mouth is the primary portal of entry for infections and a source of potentially pathogenic organisms.
Oral bacteria can translocate to the gut and change its microbiota, impacting your immune defense. Cavity-causing microbes can even spread through kissing! Gum disease and inflammation allow bacteria and metabolites in your mouth to travel through your bloodstream to other body parts. Addressing the health of your oral microbiome is important for full body health.
